Adam "MCA" Yauch of the Beastie Boys dies at 47

Adam Yauch, better known by his stage name "MCA" has passed away from cancer at age 47. The bass-player-turned-rapper-turned-filmmaker-turned-social activist will be best remembered as a founding member of seminal hip-hop act, The Beastie Boys. Starting as a NYHC band in 1979, the Beastie Boys would go on to become one of hip-hop's highest selling and most critically acclaimed acts, releasing eight albums over three decades. The band  released a statement about Yauch's death earlier today:
It is with great sadness that we confirm that musician, rapper, activist and director Adam “MCA” Yauch, founding member of Beastie Boys and also of the Milarepa Foundation that produced the Tibetan Freedom Concert benefits, and film production and distribution company Oscilloscope Laboratories, passed away in his native New York City this morning after a near-three-year battle with cancer. He was 47 years old...
You can read the statement in it's entirety here. At this point, it's unclear whether or not the Beastie Boys will continue without Yauch. Yauch is survived by his Wife Dechen and Daughter Tenzen Lozel.
